Fictional Account

Source & Reading Notes

These examples show one fictional account at three different dates. Amounts and review status reflect the date of each example.

01 / Position — Where You Stand

December 1, 2026 · Program year September 1, 2026–August 31, 2027.

Estimated cost of risk, counted so far: $1,186,000. Share of forecast revenue: 2.5%. Decisions this quarter: none.

The six levers — Premium $880,000 · Retained Losses $215,000 · Risk Control $60,000 · Administration, not yet counted · Outside Services, not yet counted · Taxes and Fees $31,000 — counted so far $1,186,000. Unchanged since September 1.

The cost is an estimate for the program year, not a cash balance. Administration and outside services are unknown here; neither is zero. The share of revenue uses the year's forecast revenue.

The readiness finding concerns the 2025–26 workers' compensation audit. Payroll records were assembled by class, checked against the reported figures and delivered to the carrier on November 30. The carrier's finding is expected in January. This is progress on one requirement, not a finding that the program is ready for every event.

Source: "The Quiet Letter — Ridgeline, December 1, 2026." Administration and outside services were first counted in the later March 1, 2027 letter; they remain unknown in this December view.

02 / Program — What You Have

July 10, 2026 · The program taken over on July 1, 2026.

Premium across all six policies: $1,076,000. Policies: 6. Read and assessed: 3 of 6.

Current premium and review status: Commercial auto $384,500 (read and assessed) · Commercial excess $144,900 (read and assessed) · General liability $67,400 (read, not yet assessed · July 24) · Property $141,800 (not yet read · July 24) · Workers' compensation $309,600 (read, not yet assessed · July 24) · Cyber $27,800 (read and assessed).

No policy has changed in this snapshot. The current auto deductible is $5,000 on damage to the client's own trucks; the current cyber limit is $2,000,000. A $25,000 auto deductible and a $5,000,000 cyber limit are options being priced. The excess retains its March 1 renewal date unless the client decides to move it.

"3 of 6" describes review progress, not coverage adequacy. General liability, property and workers' compensation have further assessment due July 24.

03 / Choice — What to Decide

July 24, 2026 · Client instruction due July 29, 2026.

Lower counted cost under B, compared with A: $199,000. A · Renew as you are: $1,385,000. B · The three changes: $1,186,000.

Two options, compared on the same scope — Premium $1,141,000 / $880,000 · Expected losses the client carries $172,000 / $215,000 · Risk Control $38,000 / $60,000 · Administration not counted / not counted · Outside Services not counted / not counted · Taxes and Fees $34,000 / $31,000 · Counted cost $1,385,000 / $1,186,000.

The cost moves with the risk. B lowers premium by $261,000 and increases expected retained losses by $43,000 and risk control by $22,000. Taxes and fees decrease by $3,000. The resulting decrease in counted cost is $199,000 against renewing as-is. B's excess figure remains an indication. Firm terms are due August 14.

The recommendation is to make the auto and cyber changes as priced and the excess change on firm terms. B is not yet chosen or bound at this date. A is complete and bindable. Administration and outside services are not counted in either option. Expected retained losses are not a ceiling on possible loss. The separate $1,320,000 prior-year cost is context, not the A-versus-B comparison.

July 10 → July 24 → December 1, 2026: the existing program, the renewal options, then the program after binding. The different dates and decisions explain why figures change between these views.

Figures and chronology were checked against the Ridgeline appointment, work plan, July 24 decision and quarterly letter.
